low-code for logistics

Every research agrees with the fact that digital transformation has impacted all kinds of business, but today, in this article, we want to focus on a specific sector, which is logistics. Among the various technologies that are changing the way companies do business, such as artificial intelligence (AI), augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), or hyperautomation there’s one that we want to talk about: low-code technology. As a matter of fact, low-code for logistics represents a real support to this sector since it offers simpler and faster solutions in a field where speed and precision are key-components.

One of the main features of this technology is its accessibility which allows to everyone to create business apps, even if you don’t have any programming background. The clearness of its interfaces and the possibility to visually create forms and plan activities are huge advantages, because the final users of the apps become the developers who have a deep knowledge of the business needs, so applications will be more specific and pertinent. In this case, there’s no need to take care of the syntax of the code, a benefit that allows to focus on the aesthetics and functionalities of the apps.

Additionally, the developing time is shorter, and this is proven by a Forrester’s survey which says that “Companies shared that visually configuring new applications using these platforms has helped speed up development and allowed the businesses to provide real-time feedback on the resulting applications’ functionality […] low-code platforms helped them accelerate development by five to 10 times”.

Therefore, this great accessibility and this rapid development perfectly fit with logistics sector needs, but how does the adoption of low-code for logistics really work?

TDox: the application of low-code for logistics

If you wonder what TDox is, we’ll explain you immediately: it’s a multi-experience development platform (MXDP) which allows to digitize business process in low-code mode, by making the available both on webapp and on Android and iOS mobile apps (the next implementation will be on smart glasses, see our road map).

Among the various sectors where TDox can be used (we find construction industry, quality control activities, maintenance operations) there’s the logistic sector. In fact, TDox provides different functions to the logistic companies to make their activities easier, faster, but above all, digital. How can it do that? Through the use of low-code, of course.

We’ll explain better: with TDox you can create forms for your operations in low-code mode. Some examples? Well, we find POD (proof of delivery) forms, parcels collection forms, BOL (bill of lading) forms, checklists for the picking up, and so on. Once you’ve created the forms that you need,  you can generate workloads (read the full guide about TDox Workloads here) to assign to your employees. Moreover, each operator has its own profile where he/she updates the system every time a form is correctly filled out and sent to the office. In this case, TDox’s automation comes in help, because a prefilled email with the attached document will be sent in automatic to the office or to the client, according to your needs,so it will avoid the tedious process of downloading the file and writing a new email.

Features for your logistic activities

What kind of features can you add on the forms? In this case, TDox offers different functionalities that can really help the operators. These features can be added with the drag-and-drop tool, so it can be done with extreme ease. Let’s see these features :

  • Camera integration. TDox is integrated with the camera of the mobile device, so operators can take pictures of the interventions or notify anomalies and damages. These pictures can be easily attached to the form and thanks to the time stampTDox is able to record the exact moment when the picture is taken. This integration also makes possible to read barcodes, a helpful tool that can support your warehouse workers for what concerns the picking activities.
  • GPS Detection. With the GPS tool you can communicate to your operators the exact itinerary they have to follow which can be helpful, for instance, if you work in the logistics sector and you have to manage your transporters (read how Iren SPA took advantage of it).
  • Checklists. Create your own checklists with the material you need to check. For instance, you may need a checklist to register the material that you picked up, a solution that makes this activity even faster and reduces human errors.
  • Digital Signature. Certify your documentswith a digital signature, so you won’t have the problem to look for a pen anymore, you just need your finger!
  • PDF Preview. A simple tool that allows to show a PDF preview to the client, so he’ll be aware of what he’s going to sign. This can be used by the transporter as soon as he/she unloads the material and a client’s signature is needed.

Add to these functions, we cannot omit the offline feature and the cloud capabilities. In fact, TDox’s engine is native offline, that means it is set on your mobile device. Consequently, if your employee must work in places where connection is low, he/she can keep doing it without any fear of losing data or without speed complication. It will be enough synchronizing data as soon as he/she gets access to an internet connection. Furthermore, all your documents can be saved on TDox cloud (XP Cloud) which is managed by our team, freeing you up from updates and other problems. Otherwise, you can use your cloud (Private Cloud) to get your own customized version of the software hosted on your cloud.

Planning your activities

Low-code for logistics is not only creating forms for your employees, but also planning operations. In this sense, TDox’s Agenda is the right tool you can have to plan and communicate with your workforce. Actually, you can warn your workforce about urgencies, deadlines, or schedule changes or simply about the daily tasks to be performed. In fact, you can create an order on webapp and then this is automatically sent to the operators who receive on their smartphone or tablet the task that has to be performed, so they can get rid of other dispersive communication tools like emails or instant messaging software, because they have all in one single platform.

However, TDox aims to meet employees needs, by facilitating their activities with the use of low-code for logistics. As a matter of fact, this centralization of activities in one platform (the multi-experience feature that involves the use of different devices) represents a huge simplification that helps your employees to work better and safer and to avoid mistakes which can cause waste of time and energies.
