becoming an agile company

Becoming an agile company is one of the main goals that organizations have to achieve nowadays in order to be competitive in the market. If you’ve never heard the word agility applied to the business world, let’s focus on its meaning and on the economic environment we are living.

Firstly, according to Dr. Saša Baškarada, Senior Cloud Transformation Consultant, Amazon Web Services (AWS) Professional Services, becoming an agile company means having “a  rapid, continuous, and systematic evolutionary adaptation and entrepreneurial innovation directed at gaining and maintaining competitive advantage. Conversely, organizations that adapt or innovate slowly, periodically, or in an ad hoc manner are not considered agile”.

According to these words, being agile for a company is essential to be competitive, because otherwise the risk is to fail. As a matter of fact, the historical period we have been living which has been strongly conditioned by Covid-19 pandemic has led companies to find new digital solutions to respond to the new customers’ requests. People changed their habits, especially the way they purchase goods, and organizations had to adapt as quickly as possible, and this is linked to a digital transformation that enterprise can’t wait to face anymore, if they don’t want to disappear. This is confirmed by the World Economic Forum which reports that “why are some companies doing better than others – and why are some doing better than before? […] it tends to be those companies that had already successfully implemented digital transformation and platform-based business models, or those that were able to quickly adopt digitalization. Companies that do not digitally transform will be left behind and will cease to exist”.

Nevertheless, the digital transformation process is just one of the components needed to be agile, actually, as a McKinesy article reports, we can find 5 operating-model dimensions:

  1. Strategy. A shared purpose and vision embodied across the organization.
  2. Structure. A network of empowered teams.
  3. Process. Rapid decision and learning cycles.
  4. People. Dynamic people model that ignites passion.
  5. Technology. Next-generation enabling technology.

However, we need to discard the common misconception that stability and scale must be sacrificed for speed and flexibility.  A real agile organization is able to combine both: a strong backbone provides the stability for developing and scaling dynamic capabilities.

Benefits of being Agile

In order to show you the advantages of becoming an agile company, we ask again to McKinsey to come in our help through a recent survey which can show very well the benefits of being agile. On a survey made on 22 organizations in six sectors the main outcomes were:

  • Employee engagement went from +20 to +30 points improvement. A higher level of engagement of the workforce who has a clear mission and who is more focused on customers.
  • Customer satisfaction went from +10 to +30 points improvement. A customer-centric enterprise can deliver superior end-to-end customer-journey experiences.
  • Operational performance went from 30% to 50% improvement. There was an important improvement in terms of speed, target achievement and predictability with employees who are fully dedicated to tasks.
  • Financial performance went from 20% to 30% improvement. This is the natural consequence of the previous improvements.

To get these results, it’s necessary for enterprises to fully embrace an agile transformation in each operating-model dimension, and to have high ambitions for performance improvement.

How does Low-Code help to be Agile?

Now that we have clear what agility of enterprise means and how important it is, let’s go back to the main purpose of this article: becoming an agile company with low-code. As you may know, low-code is a technology that allows to create apps without the use of code and to concentrate on their aesthetics and functionalities.
Thanks to low-code anyone can create apps, even those who don’t have a programming background; therefore, it gives a great accessibility to this technology, where final users of these apps become the developers, who have a deep knowledge about the business needs, and it marks the entrance of citizen developers who can create much needed apps, thanks to a simpler development path.

This benefit added to a rapidity of development, since functioning products and visually appealing design can be created in minutes instead of weeks, allows companies to adapt rapidly, flexibly, and decisively to support internal changes and to respond to the new market challenges. In fact, reducing the time needed to be spent on troubleshooting and offering more customized solutions according to the economic environment changes are key-points to become an agile company.

Additionally, using low-code means that developers quickly build minimum viable products (MVP) to validate ideas and customer requirements before wasting resources on features and functionalities that customers may not value. According to this, Joshua Davidson of and member of Forbes Technology Council says that “I love the idea of people quickly building an MVP, get feedback quickly, adapt on the fly and not escalate costs to do so. I predict that solopreneurs are going to be able to benefit from this”.

TDox: Your Low-Code Provider

If low-code represents a huge support to become an agile company, you need to know how to get this technology. For this reason, here it comes TDox, a multi-experience development platform (MXDP) which consents you to digitize business processes in low-code mode, by making them available both on webapp and on Android and iOS mobile apps (the next implementation will be on smart glasses, see our road map).

TDox can have various uses, but we can find 4 specific sectors where TDox is used the most:

  • Construction Industry.
  • Logistic Sector.
  • Quality Control Activities.
  • Maintenance Operations.

How TDox can be used? Basically, it allows you to digitally transform your business and facilitate your workforce activities thanks to the possibility of creating forms and managing operations through the use of low-code. Some examples are the POD (proof of delivery) form, the constructions site safety inspection form, equipment management form, and so on. Instead of creating these documents on Excel or other software, which are extremely helpful to perform specific tasks, with TDox you can do it via web app, by simply adding the different functions that you need with the drag-and-drop tool.

Once you created the forms that you need, you can assign them to your operators who will receive them on their smartphones or tablets (here it comes the multi-experience feature). Moreover, each operator has its own profile where he/she updates the system every time a form is correctly filled out and sent to the office. In this case, TDox’s automation comes in help, because a prefilled email with the attached document will be sent in automatic to the office or to the client, according to your needs, so it will avoid the tedious process of downloading the file and writing a new email.

Besides, TDox can be also used to plan activities and manage your workforce, always in low-code mode. Actually, you have at your disposal the Agenda and  the Dashboards tool. The first one is a useful tool to plan your activities and operations. You can warn your workforce about urgencies, deadlines, or schedule changes or simply about the daily tasks to be performed. In fact, you can create a workload on webapp (read the full guide about TDox Workloads here)  and then this is automatically sent to the operators who receive on their mobile device the task that has to be performed, so they can get rid of other dispersive communication tools like emails or instant messaging software, because they have all in one single platform. The second one allows you to manage all the activities from your pc, so you can intervene promptly in case of inconvenience. An example? If you work in the building construction sector, you can manage all the building sites, by checking the working progress of every site. A timely answer will allow you to avoid disruptions which can make you spend more time and money.

Be Agile with TDox

In the end, we cannot omit the offline feature and the cloud capabilities. In fact, TDox’s engine is native offline, that means it is set on your mobile device. Consequently, if your employee must work in places where connection is low, he/she can keep doing it without any fear of losing data or without speed complication. It will be enough synchronizing data as soon as he/she gets access to an internet connection. Furthermore, all your documents can be saved on TDox cloud (XP Cloud) which is managed by our team, freeing you up from updates and other problems. Otherwise, you can use your cloud (Private Cloud) to get your own customized version of the software hosted on your cloud.

As you could see, TDox offers you digital solutions that harness the low-code technology, so you can create your own processes and modify them anytime you want. With low-code is easier to change and to adapt quickly and TDox represents a perfect ally to support you in your way of becoming and agile company.
